Sergio Sparviero is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Communications Science since 2011, and the coordinator of the EU funded, Digital Communication Leadership (DCLead) master’s programme since 2015.
He holds a PhD in communication from Dublin City University (DCU, Ireland), where he was also employed as a postdoctoral researcher for three years. He has also an MA degree in Development studies from University College Dublin (UCD, Ireland) and a BA in economics from the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB, Belgium). He is specialized in media economic theory, particularly in alternative economic theories, media management and in business models of media industries, including audio-visual media services, music and news. He edited the book “Media Convergence and Deconvergence” with Gabriele Balbi and Corinna Peil, published by Palgrave in 2017. More recently, he focussed on studying the business model of social enterprises and in particular, of non-profit and hybrid media and communications organizations. As part of this effort, he recently published the paper “The Case for a Socially Oriented Business Model Canvas: The Social Enterprise Model Canvas” in the Journal of Social Entrepreneurship, 10(2), 232-251, and “The Contribution of Global Media to Ethical Capitalism.” in The Routledge Handbook of Digital Media and Globalization, edited by Jin Dal Yong.
