Kerryn Krige

Biography

Kerryn is a Senior Lecturer in Teaching Practice at the London School of Economics (LSE) Marshall Institute, which focuses on private action for public benefit. Kerryn joined LSE from the International Labour Organisation, where she led the development of the social and solidarity economy (SSE) policy in South Africa. She has contributed to various social entrepreneurship initiatives including the SSE strategy for the African Union, two mapping studies of social entrepreneurship in South Africa, and the development of South Africa’s USD70 Social Employment Fund. Prior to this, Kerryn led the Network for Social Entrepreneurs at the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science. She has held positions on various CSI and development finance boards, and is a trustee to accreditation authority, the Social Enterprise Mark CiC.

Kerryn is an Associate Editor for both the Social Enterprise Journal and the Emerald Emerging Markets Case Collection; she has also guest edited two Special Collections on social entrepreneurship in Africa. She is co-author of the book ‘The Disruptors: Social entrepreneurs re-investing in business and society.’ Kerryn has received numerous fellowships, is a board member at EMES, the International Research Network for Social Enterprise, and is actively involved in the African Network of Social Entrepreneurship Scholars (ANSES), which promotes the development of a relevant and localised teaching and research agenda in Africa for social entrepreneurship. Her PhD, from KU Leuven and the University of Pretoria, focuses on social entrepreneurship in difficult market, institutionally void, contexts.
