Gorgi is an Assistant Professor of Sustainability at the ESCP Business School in Paris. He also holds a Visiting Professorship at Politecnico di Milano and is a Visiting Fellow at Kellogg College, University of Oxford.

Gorgi earned a PhD from the University of Oxford (Kellogg College) and has previously worked as a senior researcher at the University of Heidelberg’s Centre for Social Investment. In his research, he deals with social entrepreneurship as well as social innovations and impact, with a particular focus on how cross-sector collaborations and new field emergence promote societal transformations and contribute to addressing environmental and social sustainability challenges.

His open access book Social Innovation: Comparative Perspectives received the 2019 best book award from the Public and Nonprofit Division of the Academy of Management (AOM). His new book Social Economy Science: Transforming the Economy & Making Society More Resilient will be published by Oxford University Press in 2023.

Gorgi developed the massive open online course Accelerating Investment Readiness (#AirMOOC), which was awarded for its impact on societal stakeholders and established TRANSFORM, a collaborative, open-source platform on innovation and entrepreneurship for sustainability. In 2021, Gorgi won the Prize of the Roman Herzog Institute (RHI), which recognised his research on social impact measurement as an innovative contribution to the social market economy. In 2022, he won the Civil Society Research Impact Award of the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) for his contribution to putting social innovation and social entrepreneurship on the German policy agenda.
