Biography
Abel Diaz Gonzalez is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Organisation, Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the School of Business Economics, Maastricht University. He holds a PhD in Business Economics from the Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB).
His research focuses on ecosystems for social entrepreneurs, particularly their supportive functions and mechanisms. Part of his research is dedicated to investigating the supportive role and interaction of universities’ main stakeholders, processes and activities within and across the ecosystems of social entrepreneurs. Abel has conducted extensive field research, teaching and project work in Latin America (Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru, Suriname, Colombia), Europe and Africa (Congo, Uganda, Morocco, and Tunisia).
Abel is also a board member for several different international associations: New Business Models (Conference Chair 2023), the International Association for Business and Society (Conference Chair Elected 2025) and the Social Entrepreneurship Summit (Co-founder and Co-organizer). Abel is currently the associate editor of Business and Society Review, and has acted as a reviewer for various other conferences and journals. He is also involved with special issues in peer-reviewed journals and has acted as the editor of a book series in the field of Social Entrepreneurship.
