Abstract

There has been extensive research on ecosystems in general,  including business, innovation, entrepreneurial, and knowledge ecosystems; the field of Social Economy and Social Enterprise Ecosystems remains relatively under explored. Yet distinguishing these ecosystems is increasingly recognised as essential. Unlike traditional entrepreneurial ecosystems, Social Economic/Social Entrepreneurial Ecosystems (SEEs) have goals that extend beyond economic value creation to include social and sustainable outcomes.

Social Enterprise Support Organisations (SESOs) are intermediary organisations which act as brokers between two or more actors and operate from a point where different ecosystems such as the entrepreneurial ecosystem, the knowledge ecosystem and the innovation ecosystem overlap.

At Euclid Network we are firm believers in the essential role of networks and SESOs to drive the development of key framework conditions and enabling ecosystems, in which social entrepreneurs and social innovators can thrive. By applying systems thinking we focused on creating an improved understanding of how to best equip and empower SESO’s in the system’s change they wish to make.

The goal of the SESO Development Framework is: “To help identify areas where interventions can have the most significant impact on desired outcomes, whether this is with the SESO internally or in the Social Economic/Social Entrepreneurial Ecosystem (SEE) where it operates from”.
