Abstract
Social entrepreneurship uses entrepreneurial methods and tools to solve social problems and sustain a positive social impact. As today’s problems are getting more complex, social enterprises are becoming more critical and gaining attention. They serve as catalysts in solving social issues with a non-profit approach. However, the term “non-profit,” which is one of the most important distinguishing features of the concept, can be confusing when combined with “entrepreneurship”.
Module-I aims to clarify the “social entrepreneurship” concept for students and give background knowledge and understanding of social/environmental problems and opportunities, showing them that social entrepreneurship can contribute to the solution of these issues by combining social/environmental and economic benefits. The instructor will explain the key trends that support social entrepreneurship with examples from the practice review. Another important aim of this Module is to explore the social entrepreneurship ecosystem with systems thinking approach.
The knowledge, understanding, and skill set that students gain in this Module will help them gain a different perspective on entrepreneurship, showing that there is an option for them to create social impact while earning money. This Module will also give students a robust infrastructure for the other modules in the curriculum.
