From September 2023 to February 2024, the second Hungarian survey of the European Social Enterprise Monitor (ESEM) was conducted, involving Euclid Network members and partners, national social enterprise networks, research institutes, and universities. The collected data enables legislators, policymakers, and financiers to better understand the challenges and needs faced by social and impact-driven entrepreneurs. We hope this will help increase the recognition of the social enterprise sector and facilitate the development of more favourable financing, regulations, policies, and support programs in the future. The Monitor’s previous data has contributed to the European Commission’s Social Economy Action Plan and influenced national-level legislation and funding opportunities in several countries.
Abstract
This third pan-European study involved 30 countries. Hungary’s renewed participation is considered highly important, as it allows us to gather fresh data on domestic social enterprises and maintain continuity within a shared European research framework. Through this, Hungarian enterprises become part of European analyses, and our data can be compared with data sets from other EU countries. In the case of several recurring questions, we could analyse changes since the previous survey conducted two years ago, allowing us to draw valuable conclusions about the state of the domestic ecosystem.
The Monitor is a quantitative research study based on an online questionnaire that participants complete voluntarily and anonymously. In Hungary, the Hungarian-language survey was conducted from early September 2023 to the end of February 2024, and after data cleaning, a total of 39 valid responses formed the basis of the analysis.
