The European Social Enterprise Monitor (ESEM) is a biennial study aimed at increasing understanding of the state, opportunities, challenges, and ecosystem of social enterprises in Europe.
The study was conducted for the third time in 2023–2024, with a record 31 countries participating. Finland took part for the first time. The study is coordinated by Euclid Network, a European network of umbrella organizations for social enterprises.
The survey targeted leaders of social enterprises. Response rates varied significantly between countries, and Finland’s response rate was among the highest. This report presents the findings of the ESEM study in Finland.
Abstract
The survey examined factors related to the impact, financing, growth prospects, and diversity of social enterprises. The goal is for the study’s findings to support the development of social enterprises and policymaking.
In Finland, the study was conducted by the Centre of Expertise for Social Enterprises, funded by the Coordination Project for Improving Business Conditions for Social Enterprises (ESR+). The project aims to:
- Strengthen regional social enterprise and social economy ecosystems
- Promote social innovation
- Improve employment opportunities for people with partial work ability and other disadvantaged job seekers
- Gather and produce data on social enterprises
- Increase awareness of social entrepreneurship
