Abstract
In Ecuador, with the approval of the constitution in 2008, the achievement of the end of good living (Sumak Kawsay) has been promoted, setting the objective of establishing an economic system in accordance with its principles, incorporating among its priorities the promotion of the social economy. The objective of the work is to know if the preferences of the citizens are aligned with those of the government. For this, the analysis of participatory budgets in Ecuador is used, as a tool that allows knowing the preferences of citizens. Specifically, three representative case studies of the different natural regions of Ecuador are carried out: Quito, Guayaquil and Sucumbíos. As main results, it should be noted that the preferences of citizens in Ecuador largely coincide with the government’s objective of promoting the social economy. However, three different models of participatory budgeting can be disting.
