Subject
The Austrian Social Enterprise Monitor (ASEM) 2023/2024 is the second edition of the national study on social enterprises in Austria. The ASEM presents current findings on the characteristics, services and needs of social enterprises in Austria and derives recommendations for action. As part of the European Social Enterprise Monitor project, it also offers the opportunity to categorise findings in an international context. The results are based on a quantitative survey of 194 social enterprises (survey period 8 November 2023 and 30 January 2024) and a qualitative survey of 30 experts from Austria and abroad.
Abstract
The aim of the Austrian Social Enterprise Monitor is to document and analyse the development of social enterprises in Austria. Embedded in the European Social Enterprise Monitor, it also provides data for a European comparison. An improved data situation helps European and national institutions to support social enterprises in tackling social and ecological challenges in a targeted manner. As part of this second implementation for Austria, it can now also draw a comparison with the first edition of the monitor. The results show that social enterprises also prove their worth in crises and thus make a contribution to social resilience in crises. However, it also indicated that social enterprises need more support if their positive social potential is to continue to be utilised.
