Abstract
Entrepreneurs with solutions, doing more with less: these are social enterprises in the Netherlands. Entrepreneurially, they offer answers to a jammed labour market, climate change, energy transition and other challenges – often even answers to several challenges at the same time. They do so in the Netherlands, from very local to national scale, and abroad.
In doing so, they are successful, according to this Social Enterprise Monitor 2023-2024. Social enterprises turn over millions, for the most part with income derived from trade. Almost all of them want to scale up. Provide more jobs. Share their successful insights and practices with mainstream business and policymakers, to make more impact as a society. But despite their extremely valuable social contributions, these companies still experience numerous obstacles in the Netherlands. Such as the government’s complex procurement policy. The lack of an appropriate legal form. The lack of political support. And many more.
