Mapping and analysis of the Swedish social innovation ecosystem
Abstract
Europe and Sweden face many complex societal challenges in the form of, for example, unemployment, poverty, the ageing population and climate change. In the search for new solutions to these challenges, the importance of cross-sectoral collaboration and social innovation is increasingly highlighted. Social innovations have great potential to contribute to transformative and systemic change in society. This report outlines the social innovation ecosystem in Sweden, as part of the European consortia Building Capacity for a Sustainable Society (BuiCaSuS) funded by the European Commission to establish competence centres for social innovation in its member states – where Forum for Social Innovation (MSI) coordinates the Swedish efforts. It summarises results from previous surveys and reports and describes the conditions, functions and actors involved in the Swedish ecosystem, outlining opportunities and challenges.
